A free and outdated tech demo for VR headsets
Freedom Locomotion VR showcases the Freedom Locomotion System where a user is able to walk or jog on the spot and able to walk or jog forwards in virtual reality. It is free, and it is a nice history lesson as you see the first uses of this technology.
Freedom Locomotion VR isn't much of a game
Freedom Locomotion VR is free, which is good for any user who wishes to try it. It isn't much of a game, but it does allow you to move around a city using Freedom Locomotion technology in its earliest stages. You have to remember that when this game came out, the idea of running or jogging on the spot in order to move within a virtual environment was new and exciting.
Was created to help stop motion sickness
Freedom Locomotion VR showcases freedom locomotion technology, and one of its original aims was to help stop motion sickness. Traditional sliding VR locomotion solutions had sometimes resulted in motion sickness, but actually moving ones body and seeing the results on the screen seems to make the whole process less sickening. If walking on the spot still causes motion sickness, then Freedom Locomotion VR showcases Dash and Blink steps that are derived from teleportation schemes, and they are said to cause less motion sickness. This game shows that larger environments may be traversed with VR games, and even though we already know that, the developers of Freedom Locomotion VR were one of the many groups that helped prove it.
